Historian
A Historian is someone who is very knowledgeable in the area of history. They often write about it or lecture about particular aspects of history. Most Historians have studied the field extensively and hold numerous degrees relating to history. There is more to being a Historian than just remembering timelines and important events though. A Historian is responsible for being able to effectively investigating and analyzing events in history.
Investigating and analyzing historical events is not the same as voicing your opinion about a historical event. It involves being able to explain what happened in history as well as why it happened. Historians also work hard to verify the previous documentation of historical events. Sometimes they are able to find significant evidence to support them and other times they are able to reasonably discount those events.
Historians have a very important role in our society. They are credited with keeping the past alive and documented. We can be certain that the information we find that is written by a well known historian has been thoroughly investigated, saving us the research time involved. If you love history and solving puzzles or mysteries, then becoming a Historian might be the right career choice for you.
Any great historian will tell you it involves a great deal of detective work and questioning the information that is out there. It also involves piecing together information to bring new information to light. This is a great career for anyone who enjoys telling stories. You can choose to be an overall historian or specialize in one particular area. Common specialization areas include wars, politics, women’s rights, and industrialization.
To become a great Historian you need to be able to combine your knowledge of history with critical thinking skills, research skills, organization, a basic understanding of economics, and the ability to follow political arenas. Other useful areas of study include literature and religion. It takes a well rounded individual with an inquisitive mind to become an excellent Historian.
We owe a great deal to Historian’s as the have preserved our history for future generations to look back on. They are able to take a phylisophical and methodical approach to what has taken place in history as well as what has been implied to take place in history. There is a vast difference between the two. This type of learning and evaluating is a major contribution to our society as a whole.
